- 5/5 - We had a very refreshing and peaceful stay at Hannics Retreat. My family was impressed with the quaint and laidback surroundings of the house. Great views as the looks over the mountain at such a close range while the bird community serenades us with the chirping sounds while you take a nap. We would definitely like to be back at this great tranquil guesthouse. The house had all the bare essentials and over and above - we did not struggle to prepare a braai in the first evening and the welcoming nature of the establishment just made us feel relaxed. A great South African experience in our Free State province.

The village with its friendly people offer an ideal country laid back environment for a break away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan cities. The village has become known as the “Jewel of the Free State” - rich in beauty, with an aura of peace and tranquility.
In this quaint village of Clarens you can explore the huge variety of galleries, craft shops and restaurants.
The more adventurous guest will be attracted to many outdoor pursuits on offer. Clarens has become an artist’s haven, motivated by the sun on the cliffs of the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Ancient inhabitants of the Clarens countryside were inspired to express themselves artistically as is evident from the many Bushman paintings in the surrounding sandstone cliffs |
